NCAA College Footbal Bowl Predictions 2010-2011
So… Here is my 2010 installment of NCAA College Football Bowl game predictions and with some, I will explain my reasoning.
S.D. County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl
Navy vs. San Diego State – Navy should win this one with their option offense. Should be a fairly high scoring game around 33 – 27 or so.
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Hawaii vs. Tulsa – Hawaii shellacs Tulsa 45 – 20
Little Caesars Bowl
Florida International vs. Toledo – Florida International wins a close one 28 – 24
AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl
Air Force vs. Georgia Tech – This game is tough to call but I believe GT will pull it out and win it by the score of 30 – 27
Champs Sports Bowl
West Virginia vs. NC State – The Big East was horrible this year as was the ACC but the Big East was a bit worse. However, I believe that the ACC continues its futility in bowl games and fall to West Virginia by the score of 34 – 17
Insight Bowl
Missouri vs. Iowa – I believe Missouri will overpower Iowa fairly easily winning this one 31 – 10
Military Bowl
East Carolina vs. Maryland – Maryland wins and shows the University how wrong they were for firing Friedgen… 17 - 10
Texas Bowl
Illinois vs. Baylor - Baylor won the amount of games they won this year against some of the most overrated teams this school has ever played. Illinois will win this because of the Zooker… 24 – 20.
Valero Alamo Bowl
Oklahoma State vs. Arizona – Oklahoma State hammers Arizona 42 – 24.
Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl
Army vs. SMU – With me being a soldier, I really want to take Army in this one but I think SMU wins it pretty convincingly by a score of 31 – 13.
New Era Pinstripe Bowl
Kansas State will beat Syracuse 33 – 24.
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
North Carolina could’ve been so much more this year. Even with the losses they had on defense, they still won quite few games and were in several more. With that in mind, and the fact that Tennessee is just not that good and are rebuilding, UNC wins 28 – 13.
Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl
Nebraska vs. Washington – How did Washington make it into a bowl? Oh that’s right, the PAC10 stinks and the powerhouse USC is on probation. Nebraska smokes Washington 48 – 20.
Meineke Car Care Bowl
South Florida vs. Clemson – South Florida beats Clemson 24 – 10.
Hyundai Sun Bowl
Notre Dame vs. Miami – The ACC is horrible… Notre Dame is bad but can score… Notre Dame wins 27 – 10.
AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Georgia vs. UCF – UGA wins 31 – 7.
Chick-Fil-A Bowl
South Carolina vs. Florida State – Again, the ACC stinks it up often in bowl games. South Carolina hasn’t been too good in bowl games under Spurrier but this is a different, more focused team. South Carolina has come off of bad losses this year with solid wins. Given the loss to Auburn, these guys have something to prove and will beat Florida State 37 – 24.
TicketCity Bowl
Northwestern vs. Texas Tech – Texas Tech will pull this off 31 – 27.
Outback Bowl
Florida vs. Penn State – Florida will dominate Penn State defensively and because of that will win this game 24 – 10.
Capital One Bowl
Alabama vs. Michigan State – Alabama punches Michigan State hard in the stomach and win this game 34 – 17.
Progressive Gator Bowl
Mississippi State vs. Michigan – This could be the only game that the Big Ten wins and the SEC loses but it’s too close to call in my opinion. Michigan wins 24 – 23.
Rose Bowl
Wisconsin vs. TCU – TCU wins with defense and shuts down the potent Wisconsin rushing offense by a score of 14 – 10.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Connecticut vs. Oklahoma – Connecticut who? Exactly… Oklahoma puts up 50 here and wins… 55 – 10.
Discover Orange Bowl
Stanford vs. Virginia Tech – This game could be one of the best of the bowl season. Stanford should win but Virginia Tech will probably squeak by 31 – 27.
Allstate Sugar Bowl
Ohio State vs. Arkansas – Ohio State continues its run of futility against SEC foes, more specifically SEC foes in BCS bowls… Arkansas will put up points on Ohio State and will beat them 33 – 20.
GoDaddy.com Bowl
Middle Tennessee vs. Miami (OH) – I don’t care at all about this game but considering how Miami played against Florida, Miami should win 27 – 21.
AT&T Cotton Bowl
LSU vs. Texas A&M – Tough game to call but I think LSU wins a close one 24 – 23.
BBVA Compass Bowl
Pittsburgh vs. Kentucky – Big East vs. SEC… Kentucky beats a weak Big East team with an interim coach… Kentucky wins 27 – 13.
Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl
Nevada vs. Boston College – Nevada should win this one 31 -13.
Tostitos BCS National Championship Bowl
Oregon vs. Auburn – Should be a high scoring game unless the PAC10 is really weak on defenses… I think this one will be a shootout with Auburn pulling it off 51 – 49.

Alabama and Auburn will win their Bowl games. That will be really great with Mark and Cam being Heisman winners. You apparently were kidding with the "illegal" comment.
Well, so far (as if Dec. 27) you have been wrong on just about every game (with the exception of FIU-- hat's off to you for predicting the worst refereeing in college bowl history). So I have even more faith when I pick Arizona to make it a close game, Stanford to dismantle VT, A&M to beat LSU. Arkansas is the only really good SEC team this year other than Auburn, and Auburn will lose to Oregon. I have a feeling Arkansas will lose too, but I'm less sure on that score. The Pac-10 is not as weak this year as its record indicates. ASU had a damn good team this year, and Oregon state had the toughest schedule in football. Neither are going to bowls, but either would dismantle the lower half of bowl-bound SEC teams this year, and they would have gone 7-5 or 8-4 with an SEC schedule with 4 games against the likes of Chattanooga and Lousiana-Monroe!
LOL TCU will not hold WI to 10 pts in either quarter in the 2nd half. Way more pts in this game and wisconsin will win by 10 at least.
Don't beat up on yourself-- you got OK State Arizona right. Even though statistically AZ did make it a game as I thought they would-- they got many stops against the State offense and they moved the ball very well themselves--no way I could have predicted 4 frigging turnovers, starting with a muffed punt return and an interception for TD in the first 5 minutes of the game!
joe - I really cant disagree with you As Maurice Jones Drew is all that and more. A great running back indeed!
I am going with Oregon to win the national championship. Cam Newton will fizzle out when he makes it to NFL.
I don't understand the Bowl System ... If your team isn't in the National Championship Game, then what does it really matter. I am from Wisconsin and the Badgers just lost the Rose Bowl but I honestly can't say I care either way because if they won then what? That makes them the 5th best team in the NCAA? Woo-Hoo! ... I guess ...
Guess you're right about the big 10 this year, and congrats on calling the Rose Bowl perfectly. But looks like you may be wrong about the Pac-10 this year. Arizona choked as they always do (AZ State would have beaten OK State), but after seeing the Stanford defense stop a good VT offense led by a dangerous running quarterback you still think that the pac-10 is "defenseless"? 40-12, and no, this wasn't the VT team that lost to James Madison. Stanford stopped VT's A game, the same quality game that beat Fla State, the same Fla State that beat Florida. Better think again about the Pac 10's "weak defenses." Oregon's not playing as well now as they were when they beat Stanford, but the Pac 10 was a quality conference this year, where anybody on a given day could knock off anybody else because no team was a Vandy. Oregon and Stanford are the real deal. How I would have loved to see either Stanford-Wisconsin or Stanford-TCU in the Rose.
My keys to the NCG. Cam Newton will have a below-average passing day against the Oregon secondary. Not awful, but below average-- he might even get picked once. Question for the game: will the Ducks be able to tackle him in space and limit his runs to 6-8 yards, or will he be able to evade the linebackers and run right over the safeties and break huge gains? LaMichael James will have a below-average running day against the Auburn rush defense. Not a total shutout, but quite possibly under 100. Question for the game: is Oregon's first year QB mature enough to keep his calm under the inevitable pressure and throw accurately downfield? Can the Oregon offensive line protect him from Fairley? In short, if Auburn wins, it's because Cam wins it on the ground. For Oregon to win, they have to win it through the air. I think Oregon's the better team with the better coach, but they're also the team more likely to get rattled and beat themselves.
Great Hub. God Bless You.
